I'm Not a Robot: web3 Edition
We are all used to those CAPTCHA tests where we are forced to click traffic lights to prove we are not a robot. How do we do the same in web3 when robots can automatically create wallets?
This Person Does Not Exist still blows my mind. Look at this photo:
This is not a real person. It is AI generated. Now imagine the same program also creating a LinkedIn profile with an AI generated bio. Imagine blog posts written and shared. Imagine it creating Eth addresses and connecting to Discord or a Metaverse application. Imagine it messaging you. Could you tell if it’s a real person or not?
This is not an issue IRL because, hey, you talk to a real person. Robots may be becoming more sophisticated, but they are nowhere close to being realistic enough to fool a person. Online personas? Those are already tricky enough.
This is where services like Proof of Humanity come in. While it can be easy to just attach a fake photo (see above) to an Eth address and impersonate a human, we still have the chance to prove humanity through IRL or Zoom conversations (which are still harder to fake).
I’ve submitted my application, which was honestly kinda weird. However, while it’s still possible to prove such things (until AI is strong enough to even fake online verication), I wanted to get it in. This way, I have already proven that my eth address is linked to me as a real human. This may the only true way to verify non-spam accounts in the web3 space as more and more of our experience moves online/digital in web3.
